A flood watch is in effect near Parker. Here is when the heaviest rain may arrive
A National Weather Service flood watch is in effect for higher terrain and areas near and east of Parker. The watch continues through noon Thursday as tropical moisture brings the possibility of repeated heavy rain.
The watch includes central and eastern Douglas County above 6,000 feet, and the NWS point forecast two miles east of Parker is inside the watch area. The alert does not mean flooding is occurring everywhere, but conditions could produce flooding in creeks, streams, low-lying areas and places with poor drainage.
How much rain is possible
The NWS says 1 to 2.5 inches of rain may fall in the watch area, with locally higher totals possible. Showers and thunderstorms may arrive in rounds, so runoff can build even where a single storm does not appear severe.
Residents should continue checking the latest forecast for their exact location because the watch follows elevation and forecast-zone boundaries rather than town limits.

A few practical steps before the rain
Parker Police recommends checking that sump pumps work, clearing debris from gutters and downspouts, securing outdoor items and keeping up with road-closure information. Drivers should never enter a flooded roadway or go around a barricade.
The watch could be upgraded or narrowed as the storm develops. A flood warning would mean flooding is imminent or already happening and should be treated with greater urgency.
